The Recipe for Almost Perfect Happiness is Lia Pokorny’s first highly successful one-woman show. Through the story of a single character, Kriszta Bársony, it explores something every woman, every person and every adult tries to understand at some point: what happiness really is, and why we spend our whole lives chasing it.

Meet Kriszta Bársony, who – just like all of us – has spent her entire life searching for that certain “almost perfect” happiness.

Through Kriszta Bársony’s life, The Recipe for Almost Perfect Happiness shows how the wounds and survival strategies we carry from childhood can shape our entire lives. Kriszta grew up in a family where a child quickly learns that peace and love often depend on adapting, staying silent and holding on to illusions. As children, we want to believe that our parents are good and that the world is a safe place. If something does not feel right, we are more likely to blame ourselves. For a long time, that belief protects us.

As always, Lia Pokorny takes us on this emotional rollercoaster with humor, depth and improvisation. During the uninterrupted two-hour performance, she leads us through a wide emotional range, with humor keeping the story in motion. Humor is one of the most powerful tools on the path toward survival and honesty with ourselves: it helps make the unspeakable easier to face.

Perfect happiness does not simply fall into our laps. And perhaps that is not such a bad thing, because what is real does not arrive ready-made – it takes shape together with us. The performance does not make statements or decisions for us. Instead, it awakens something within us that we may not have dared to feel for a long time, and asks: what do we do with everything we have come to recognize? And could it be that the relationship we long for most begins with ourselves?

The performance is filled with subtle, deeply human moments that make us laugh and become emotional at the same time – moments that often leave audience members saying afterwards: “It felt like it was about me.”
